Sukhjit Ahluwalia
Principal Solicitor & Founder of Avery Emerson
Sukhjit Singh has been at the forefront of Avery Emerson since founding the firm in 2003, serving as its Principal Solicitor and driving its vision of delivering exceptional, client-centered legal services. With over two decades of experience, Sukhjit brings a wealth of legal knowledge and a deeply personal approach to every case.
He qualified as a solicitor in 1998 after passing his Law Society Finals in 1993, and since then, he has built a diverse and accomplished legal career spanning multiple areas of law. Before establishing Avery Emerson, Sukhjit gained invaluable experience working in the City of London with prestigious firms and institutions such as Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), Freshfields, Nabarro Nathanson, and Ernst & Young. This blend of corporate law and consultancy expertise gives him a broad and insightful perspective that few legal professionals possess.
Sukhjit is deeply committed to continuous professional growth—not only in his own practice but also in fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence within his team. He believes that a high-performing legal team is founded on shared knowledge, integrity, and a unified dedication to achieving the best possible outcomes for clients.
His client base is equally diverse, ranging from high-profile individuals, including members of the extended Royal Family, to major corporations such as a leading European shipping company. His role as a Conciliation Officer with the Law Society further underscores his commitment to fairness and resolution in the legal process.
Beyond his legal practice, Sukhjit embraces a global outlook shaped by extensive travel, enriching both his personal and professional life. He is multilingual, fluent in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu, with working knowledge of Gujarati—skills that enhance his ability to serve a wide range of clients with sensitivity and cultural understanding.
In 2015, Sukhjit was elected Chair of the Sole Practitioners’ Group, a respected representative body supporting over 5,500 sole practitioner solicitors across England and Wales. He held this leadership position until 2016, advocating for the interests of small legal practices on a national level.
Sukhjit has also contributed to public legal education through his participation in two legal documentaries—one for Channel 4 in the UK and another for Danish television—demonstrating his dedication to increasing awareness and understanding of the law.
A lifelong East Londoner originally from Ilford, Sukhjit now lives in Romford with his three children. He places great importance on family and balances his professional responsibilities with meaningful charitable work. He is the founder and trustee of SEVA Street, a registered charity that provides vital weekly support to people experiencing homelessness in East London. Each week, Sukhjit and a dedicated team of 35 volunteers distribute over 200 freshly prepared meals to those in need at Stratford Centre. Learn more at www.sevastreet.org.
Sukhjit’s vision for Avery Emerson is clear: to build a law firm that is approachable, empathetic, and genuinely client-focused—where every client is treated as an individual and every legal solution is tailored to their unique needs.
